Well. We shall know soon.

Just so I got this right, he's missed the whole season due to a "sore elbow", but he's already been checked out by Andrews and no ligament damage?

I haven't heard of a sore elbow keeping a guy out a full year when surgery didn't end up being required.

No, he broke his leg first and then got shut down later ...

And back to the good Doctor.

I know they say surgery is a last resort but it has got to be getting close to that point.

There is nothing to cut. It is a biometric issue obviously.

What is obvious is that we can't count on getting anything out of Hunter Harvey. Maybe we will, but we can't make any plans based on that assumption.

It's certainly not looking good at this point. The fact that both Bundy and Harvey have really struggled to stay healthy means one of two things. Either the Orioles remain very unlucky when drafting high school pitchers, or their scouts are continually drafting high risk pitchers.

When your recent past includes the following 1st round high school arms:

Harvey

Bundy

Hobgood

And in the last 20 years:

Loewen

Stahl

Cenete

Rice

you start to realize the Orioles are not very good and drafting and developing high risk/reward pitchers.

Then again, considering Zach Britton is the only HS pitcher (that I can recall since I didn't do a real detailed search) the Orioles have drafted and developed into an All-Star (closer not starter) since Jim Palmer and you can guess why I shutter every time I hear a high school arm get drafted early by the Orioles.

The hiring of Peterson was supposed to help solve this but both Harvey and Bundy have come up lame (As well as many others).

The only HS arm we've drafted and developed of late who has stayed healthy and had no red flags in his delivery, we traded for a two month rental on a mediocre ballclub. Ashamed Zach Davies won't get the chance to break the streak with the Orioles.

    • I know all teams are matchup crazy but it’s really getting annoying.
    • Kjerstad needs to get a fair chance and not sit on the bench for most of the week. They should try to find room for Norby too even with his defensive limitations. I’ve been a Urias supporter, but if Mateo can be a utility infielder then there isn’t much use for Urias on the roster.
    • Seems that the Orioles have seen more left-handed pitchers this year and they also have seen that Adley traditionally has hit much better when DHing vs catching. Saying that, McCann has been absolute zero this year and looks like a guy who is in his last year of major league baseball. I'm sure McCann is a good clubhouse guy, but he's not a guy you want to run out there as much as they have been, and I think it's more out of necessity at this point.  Maybe Hyde/Sigbot will let Stowers actually start against a lefty and that would allow Rutschman to C more against lefties?
    • It’s partially you, because I certainly don’t see him doing that in almost every single at bat.  But I do see him doing it with some frequency, more so than in prior years.  I think he’s trying (with some success) to increase the launch angle on his swing, and that’s what’s causing the drop to one knee thing as he tries to get a little more under the ball.  His average launch angle has gone from 12.6 to 18.0, and he’s also pulling the ball more (42.5% to 38.4% last year) and hitting to the opposite field far less (20.3% to 28.3% last year).   I don’t think any of that is an accident.
    • I have noticed that too. He has definitely done in the past. Not sure if it just seems like it’s happening more often or if it truly is.
    • Eric Haase is having a good year in AAA on a milb deal. Brewers ties too. Currently with the Brewers AAA team. He had really good years in 2021 and 2022. He may have a June 1 opt out.    https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/haaseer01.shtml Just sayin… McCann might not be so safe. Haase is 4th on the brewers C depth chart. We have a good relationship with Milwaukee, or Haase could just opt out on June 1.  Haase can even play some LF too.
    • I think he’s fine in the regular season but if you look around at #4 starters on contending teams like NYY, LAD, PHI, and ATL you get: LAD: one of Walker Buehler/Bobby Miller/Clayton Kershaw (if healthy) ATL: Reynaldo Lopez (3.60 xERA, 2.90 FIP) or Max Fried (3.16 xERA, 3.51 FIP) NYY: Gil, Stroman, or Schmidt PHI: Turnbull (4.19 xERA, 3.62 FIP) or Sanchez (3.73 xERA, 2.58 FIP)   The only guys I would consider Kremer over are Stroman (who is probably the Yankees 6th best starter when Cole comes back) or Turnbull (very similar career numbers but has been much better this year). Again, he’s fine as a #5 but I would not want him starting another playoff game and if Irvin reverts back to being a 4-4.40 ERA guy, I don’t think we would be thrilled with that either.
